Jonny Hawkins is a former Bible college student and pizza deliverer who hit the streets at age 19, drawing caricatures at arts and craft shows, simultaneously attempting to sell his single panel funnies to magazine around the world.
Over the 20 years since Jonny took the cartooning plunge as a college sophomore, his cartoons have been seen in places such as
Reader's Digest, Forbes, Guideposts, Phi Delta Kappan, American Educator, Barron's, Harvard Business Review, Medical Post, Boy's Life, Saturday Evening Post, 21 Chicken Soup for the Soul books
and over 300 other venues.
His nationally syndicated comic feature, Hi and Jinx, has appeared in newspapers around the country for the last dozen years.
Jonny's cartoons have been on countless products, including sculpted resin collectibles, plaques, framed art, t-shirts, cd's, greeting cards, many calendars and even plush.
He has an unprecedented 3 current cartoon-a-day calendars all his own, (4 total if last year's Scooch-A-Day calendar with Current, Inc. is included) and has been involved in several others with Sam Gross and Barnes and Noble. This year's calendars are 2005 Medical Cartoon-A-Day, 2005 Fishing Cartoon-A-Day and 365 Laughtershocks.
He has had 4 recent books published with Harvest House Publishers:
The Awesome Book of Heavenly Humor, Laughter From the Pearl Gates, A Tackle Box of Fishing Funnies and Wild and Wacky Animal Cartoons
for Kids. His toons have appeared in over 75 other books as well.
Also an aspiring children's book writer and toy inventor (see the flying fish kite with rod and reel by Go Fly A Kite), Jonny lives in a barn shaped house near his boyhood home near Sherwood, with his wife and CFO, Carissa, his beloved ants-in-the- pants boys, Nate (5) and Zach (3), and his collection of 20,000 baseball cards.
